Pediatrics

The department of pediatrics at civil hospital Gurdaspur, under the able guidance of SMO Dr. Vijay Bains, is managed by 3 pediatricians and 6 dedicated staff nurses. The facilities available are:

1.SNCU: (Special New Born Care Unit) : It Has 8 Infants Radiant warmes ( with servo control and in built suction machines), Inborn & out born units, oxygen concentrators, manual oxygen cylinders (required for sick baby which RDS or sepsis), two multi para monitors are also available. The SNCU ward provide care to new born with jaundice by 2 LED phototherapy and 2 CFL phototherapy machines. Besides this the staff is well trained for care of LBW babies, premature babies and management of birth asphyxia. We are also a referral center and well communicated referral network with CNC’ s and PNC. The care is provided free of cost under JSSK scheme.

2.Step down unit & KMC corner: We have a step down unit sick babies often stabilization / enforcement are kept with mother for observation before being discharged. The kangroo mother care  (KMC) corner provides a congenial and soothing environment for doing KMC to premature babies and easily discharge and maintenance of temperature.

3.Pediatric ward: 10 Bed pediatric ward for older children where a variety of children suffering from diseases like asthma, pneumonia, UTi, gastroenteritis, anemia, malnutrition and jaundice and typhoid fever are being treated. Two nebulizers available for nebulization.

4.New born Care: Every new baby born at civil hospital Gurdaspur either by normal delivery or cesarean section is examined at birth by pediatrician and screened for any birth defects. Daily rounds at maternity ward ensures that baby is doing well and again examined before discharge.
